No no, the entitled capitalists shut down that whole coast because of diamonds. Back in the day, one could literally pick up diamonds on the beach. De Beers and the govt claimed almost the whole coast, and it is still illegal to gain access!

Interesting! A similar phenomenon occurs in the Atacama Desert (Chile): the cold Humboldt Current prevents precipitation and generates fog ("camanchaca"). However, the desert is smaller there (because it is confined by the Andes mountain range)
