Me and my husband got married at a court house and I didn’t get a “nice” ring until being married for a while. Been together 13 years. Married for 7. And in that we have watched couples have big weddings and spend tons of money and then get divorced within 1-5 years of it happening. I’m not sure there is a direct correlation but I think we had gotten most of our fights out of the way before we got married and didn’t put big pressure on ourselves to make a big day. We also started out a little different than others. Moved in together and shared a bank account right off the rip. I got kicked out of my house the day after we got together and he offered me to live with him and his friend. We have both had high points and low points and we have proven that we want to be together through it all and have never put material belongings or other people between us.

I wanted to elope, but my mom wanted me to have a wedding (my dad was dying and we knew I’d be the only child he saw get married). She planned everything. The day of I walked in totally blind- I had no idea what to expect. It was so cool! Closest thing to a surprise party I’ve ever had. My husband and I had a blast. We got tons of family photos with my dad. It was awesome! My husband and I celebrate 28 years of marriage next month. 🥰

Wedding doesn’t need to be big to be meaningful. Marriage is hard so making a commitment to your partner in front of the people you love the most and trust the most to help you in the times that are hard. But if you come to my wedding it means that you believe that we are meant to be together so you’ll help us stay together in the hard times and you’ll help us stay accountable to our promise we made

I have been married for 14 years and we are still very happy. we had literally 30 people at our wedding and my ring is an heirloom. his first marriage was the whole circus act and he hated it, that marriage lasted 6 years.
