@saronthings: Problematic or not, this take seems to be fairly common amongst every group. Shouldn’t that be focus of the conversation rather than attempting to pinpoint which one is the problem? #bisexual #feminism #intersectionalfeminism #lgbtq
the fact that a "no" isn't being respected BECAUSE people dont feel like the reson is valid it because they dont like the reason, is scary...the fact that SO MANY PEOPLE heard "NO" and IMMEDIATELY jumped to "youre homo/bi-phobic unless you say yes to dating a bisexual man is GENUINELY TERRIFYING....the precedent that they are setting of "no means no UNLESS i dont like the reson you said no" is DANGEROUS. the way so many people IMMEDIATELY jumped to demonizing straight women for refusing to share their bodies woth people they are NOT attracted to is GENUINELY TERRIFYING.....

The conversation regarding gay men and women that won't date a bi person has been going on for years. Biphobia and bi erasure is something we've had to deal with from both sides. "Not gay enough for the gays and not straight enough for the straights". And that's when we're not being told we just don't exist.

Im bi and the whole argument feels coercive, like if women dont allow a man to enter their body they are a bigot. Being attracted to skinny people doesn't mean you hate fat people, and a straight person preferring another straight person is also not hateful. No is still a full sentence.

Bi woman here. Men's agency to choose is implied as legitimate and accepted. Women's agency to choose is viewed as fundamentally illegitimate. This is why their choices are subject to greater scrutiny. Same thing goes for the centering of lesbian women in the other case you mentioned. I have absolutely experienced biphobic rejection, but it has never once occurred to me that I should try to make that bigot date me.

At this point is directed more toward black straight women. Atleast on my side of tik tok.

The conversation is weird. What’s the goal?

I think the main problem is because the conversation has twisted from "hey, the fact that people won't date bisexuals is due to the myths that they are cheaters and will ultimately leave you for whatever gender you aren't, which is untrue and needs to be thought about and unlearned so that if you meet and are attracted to a bisexual in the future, those biases wont get in the way" to "if you aren't attracted to someone and they are bisexual, you are inherently biphobic". It's important to address that harmful stereotypes are impacting the way people are choosing to date, while also acknowledging that attraction is varied and weird and people like what they like.

Great question, Gays, Lesbians, and Straight people can all be biphobic, I personally think there are more reasons for gay men and lesbians to not want to date bi people, but I have heard each group say they fear we will cheat on them because we can't be with just one gender to be satisfied which is a harmful sterotype!

It’s strange to me that in general women agree with alllllll the other things - no means no, my body my choice….. and yet somehow this is exempt from that? 🤔 who you sleep with and why is no ones business.

YES, anyone who refuses to date someone on the grounds of their sexuality, is homphobia. us gays check each other (lesbians and gays) for the internalized biphobia. we unfortunately have this conversation regularly. it is now including straight women because a straight woman asked this question to begin with. then most comment sections were filled with straight women screaming "IT'S MY PREFERENCE" so the conversation narrowed to the loudest ones in the audience

A lot of it comes from insecurity or a belief that someone that is bisexual cannot be monogamous.

I saw many bi men in this app saying that they do not want to date men but only having sex with them while date or marry only women which sound very problematic too.

The gay men discourse and lesbian discourse are definitely still biphobia and that’s been talked about for a long time already, it’s like straight women only just realized this could be an accusation.

Well, they are biphobic. But I've asked if a straight woman would date a straight man they were attracted to if they found out he was ever raped by a man and she said no, so I'm thinking it's more founded in internalized misogyny.

The idea that every dating preference must be “unpacked” to determine whether it’s rooted in bias is a dangerous one. If we accept that attraction can or should be changed simply by addressing unconscious bias, then the same argument could just as easily be applied to LGBTQIA+ people themselves. For decades, they’ve fought against the idea that their sexuality is something to be explained, corrected, or changed. Why apply that framework to anyone else’s dating preferences?
Not every rejection needs a moral explanation. Dating is inherently personal. People choose partners based on countless preferences, experiences, and feelings that don’t always have a rational justification. We don’t owe anyone attraction.
As a straight woman, if someone needs certain information about me before deciding whether they want to date me, I’d rather they have it. If someone doesn’t want to date me, then we’re simply not compatible. I don’t need to convince them otherwise.
Being an ally doesn’t require being romantically or sexually available to everyone. Supporting LGBTQ+ rights and dignity is not the same as being attracted to every identity within the community.
When straight women say they don’t want to date bisexual men, immediately assuming the reason is internalized bias or demanding they “unpack” their preferences often achieves the opposite of what’s intended. It suggests that attraction itself is something that should be corrected if the “wrong” reasons are found. That is a line of reasoning the LGBTQ+ movement has historically rejected for good reason.
People should be free to examine their own preferences if they choose to, but they shouldn’t be expected to justify or defend every romantic boundary they have. Respecting people’s autonomy means respecting both who they choose to love and who they choose not to date.
