@horrifyinghumanity: The judge was still reading the list of Giovanni's injuries out loud when Ortiz-Nieves had to be physically removed from the courtroom. Giovanni Mejias was 4 years old. He d*ed from a single tear in his abdomen caused by blunt force. The autopsy also found seven blows to his head, cigarette burns on his body, and two ribs that had been broken and were already healing. His k*ller was his mother's boyfriend. A jury convicted Ortiz-Nieves of felony m*rder and first-degree child ab*se. Six other children were removed from the home. Giovanni's grandmother said he "tore our family apart." Ortiz-Nieves is serving mandatory life without parole. His appeal was reviewed and every argument rejected. Giovanni's family deserved to have his story told. So do the families we haven't reached yet. Follow along and help us make sure those stories don't stay buried. #justice #courtroom #childsafety
