@chiarthritis: What is the real root cause of autoimmune disease? It is usually not one food, infection, stressful event, or environmental exposure. Autoimmune disease develops when genetic susceptibility and possible immune triggers combine with a breakdown in immune tolerance—the safeguards that normally stop your immune system from attacking your own body. Molecular mimicry may be one part of the process, but it does not explain everything. The immune system is complex, and our understanding continues to evolve. Most importantly, your autoimmune disease is not your fault. #autoimmunedisease #rootcause #ImmuneSystem #Rheumatology #PatientEducation
I’m pretty positive genetics play a role in my case. I have multiple sclerosis. My mom’s husband has rheumatoid arthritis. My aunt, my mom sister has Hashimoto thyroiditis.
