@meghannmcuniff: Jurors in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial in Massachusetts heard testimony on Monday (August 3, day 5) about the drugs she was prescribed in the months before she killed her young children in what her lawyer says was a psychosis caused by postpartum mental health problems. Kevin Reddington cross-examined Sejal Shah, a psychiatrist at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston who evaluated Clancy after she was hospitalized on Jan. 24, 2023. “She was on amitriptyline, diazepam. I believe she was also on prescribed lorazepam, and there may have been one other,” Shah testified. Reddington questioned Shah about other prescription drugs including Remeron, quetiapine (Seroquel), amitriptyline, and Ambien, (this video has been edited and does not include everything) then asked, “Some of these drugs they also have what's called a suicide warning or a black box warning, isn't that right?” “Yes,” Shah answered. “Can you tell me what that means?” Reddington asked. “So in studies that have been that have been done, some of them show that, especially after starting an antidepressant, it can increase someone's risk of suicidality. Many of those studies showed that it was mostly in adolescents and young adults, but it can happen in adults as well,” Shah answered. "It's an awful lot of drugs to be prescribed in four months, isn't it?" Reddington asked. Judge William Sullivan sustained an objection from Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague, who followed up in re-direct by asking Shah, “All those drugs that defense counsel just listed, you're aware she wasn't on all of those drugs at the same time, correct?” “Correct,” Shah answered. “And did you know that many of those drugs she took very a very small amount of? Some she didn't take any pills at all?” Sprague asked. “I was not aware of that,” Shah answered. Jurors will not hear about a lawsuit Lindsay Clancy’s former husband, Patrick Clancy, filed against her psychiatrist, a nurse practitioner and South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, where she was treated for postpartum mental health problems before she killed her three children in their Duxbury home on Jan. 24, 2023. The lawsuit alleges “the bevy of diverse and powerful medications they misprescribed coupled with their abject failure to appropriately monitor Lindsay resulted in Lindsay's mental health deteriorating to the point of suicidal ideation and requiring in-patient care.” “Ultimately, Defendants' negligent treatment of Lindsay, including their complete failure to recognize and address the radical erosion of her mental health, resulted in tragedy, namely, allegations that Lindsay took the lives of her children," according to the lawsuit, which was filed in January 2026. "If Defendants had not acted negligently, and rather had provided adequate care, it is more likely than not that Patrick and Lindsay's children would still be alive today." I work in the mental/psych field and knowing what zolpidem, buspirone, prozac, lorazepam, etc can do to your mind and body… just know there’s no absolute way she could’ve even had a clue what’s going on around her let alone even know her own mind… this is absolutely insane.

No one is saying she was on all of those meds at the same time. The fact that they were jumping around and trying all of those meds in such a short period of time is what’s so concerning

docs have to rely on what patients say. she could've easily said she was taking stuff she wasnt and not told stuff she was taking. they dont babysit patients at home or count their pills weekly.

“She wasn’t on all of those drugs at the same time” yeah it’s still wild to have your patient on and off medication in a short period of time!

I got stuck on the toxicology reports... she took the pills way before the murders to the point these were already broken down to different components... THERE'S NO WAY SHE HAD THE STRENGTH TO KILL THEM WITH THOSE MEDICATIONS IN HER SHSTEM.

Even if she took ZERO meds and/or had ZERO meds in her system at the time of the incident…. SHE WAS STILL EXPERIENCING POSTPARTUM PSYCHOSIS AND/OR POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION! I think some of y’all have lost the plot here. IF she was on meds, in addition to the psychosis, that just makes it even more dangerous!

some of those drugs you cannot just abruptly stop and some of them can take over a month to show any results. so many prescribed in such a short time no wonder she was struggling so much.

So if she took 0% of her medication it’s even more telling that she would’ve been experiencing (STILL) the PPD and psychosis. I’m not sure how saying she didn’t take the medication clears that fact

Maybe irrelevant, but there is something so condescending about telling a psychiatrist that SSRIs are contraindicated with bipolar as if cyclical/ bipolar ii isn’t a thing - or as if lamotrigine + escitalopram isn’t literally one of the most common combinations for bipolar lol. Also, for anyone curious— a major reason why black box warnings exist is because sometimes people have such severe depression that they are unable to do literally anything. Getting on anti-depressants finally actually gives them enough energy and motivation to make a plan to commit.

None of this is making sense. These are serious drugs to be just switching and prescribing coming from someone who’s been PTSD & multiple MIS diagnoses & works in pharmacy. These doctors DO NOT CARE. My second psychiatrist literally looked at my chart and said “no wonder you feel crazy. You were on 5 meds and changing them every two months”. We need doctors who LISTEN & CARE. I know they’re out there. I’m not saying they aren’t, but this is unacceptable. We shouldn’t be going backwards with this.
