The bitcoin network nor the device technically got hacked. The developers of the device’s software incorrectly implemented the randomness algorithm for how wallets are generated. Meaning people were using wallets with predictable seed phrases. The hack occurred because someone noticed this flaw and were able to access the wallet by generating recovery phrases. Since all wallets exist on a decentralized network, even without the devices compromised, someone logged in. This because the devices don’t actually store the wallets, the networks do. The devices merely store the keys that access them. If the keys can be predictably generated, you get a situation like this.
