Is an InBody scan accurate? 🤔 Or is a Dexa Scan the best? Thankfully there was a study comparing the two types of machines (BIA vs DXA). The InBody Scan underestimated fat mass and percentage body fat while overestimating fat-free mass compared to a Dexa Scan. To simplify that, it is going to present a body fat % that is lower than what your actual body fat %. Now, just because the InBody is not the best at estimating body composition, it did accurately measure changes over time. So if you got an InBody test today and then measured it again in a few months and saw improvements, you did make progress. But the actual Body Fat % it is presenting is not 100% accurate. Overall, the Dexa Scan is the gold standard for measuring body composition. But if you have access to an InBody Scan, it’s a great tool to monitor progress over time.
