We could rewrite that as (2x2)x5. But when we’ve got a string of only multiplications, we can do them in whatever order we like. So we could do 2x(2x5). That’s the same as 2x10. Look at that! We turned a 4x5 to 2x10 by taking a factor of 2 from the 4 and giving it to the 5. This has the same effect as halving the 4 and doubling the 5.
