I hadn’t considered this as a contributing factor for TikTok since most of my mutuals discuss and/or post about our hobbies. But I def considered this for Reddit due to all the incels & other negative & chronically online tech bros on there. Just think of 4chan. People who are happier with their lives and themselves are more likely to post about it (excluding insecure people who seek external validation, ofc). People who are miserable, unattractive, insecure, lack social networks, unemployed, don’t go outside, etc. are not going to enjoy a social media platform that centers around their own experiences and lives (ex: Instagram, FB). I’m not saying these traits are automatically reflections of people’s poor character, but anonymous internet platforms appeal to a subset of these people compared to IRL or self-centered social media platforms.
