During my presentation of the Minority Report on the Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2026, I submitted that reducing the excise duty on single-use plastics from the 25% earlier passed by Parliament back to 2.5% contradicts government’s stated commitment to environmental protection and the fight against plastic pollution. We cannot claim to champion a cleaner environment while weakening measures that discourage the production and consumption of single-use plastics. Our tax policies must be consistent with our environmental obligations and the interests of future generations. #TemulyaEmbidde
