In the electronic system, the butterfly opening is controlled by an internal engine and monitored by redundant position sensors, allowing the PCM to precisely regulate the throttle, accelerator response, and engine load. In this design, an independent IAC valve is not used, because the butterfly itself performs the air control of minimum. In the traditional system, the butterfly has a mechanical opening and closing function, while the regulation of minimum gear is the responsibility of the IAC valve. The TPS sensor informs the PCM of the butterfly's angular position, and with that information, the unit adjusts fuel strategy, ignition, and throttle control. When there is dirt, wear, electrical failures, or loss of calibration in any of these elements, symptoms such as unstable throttle, shutdown, excessive RPM, or poor throttle response may occur. From the diagnostic perspective, it is essential to first identify the type of system the vehicle is equipped with, as the testing method changes completely. In an electronic system, the butterfly's power supply, ground, references, position signals, and engine control are checked; in a traditional system, the IAC valve, TPS, throttle air flow, body cleaning, and possible vacuum leaks are evaluated.
