There are a few confusing points: isn’t Iran and Oman sharing the strait basically the arrangement they’ve always had? With a service fee. So when the gulf states build a pipeline bypassing the strait, there’s an element of price competition. Do they accept that or just attack the pipeline do defend their monopoly? The US has 11 aircraft carriers, they can rotate out the two there currently and replace them, there’s already one in the Indian Ocean waiting. So yes, the US can maintain a large combat presence in the Gulf for a long time, even without regional bases, if they wanted to. If the IRGC get desperate enough they can try to sink those ships, but no warship that size has even been sunk with hypersonic missiles or a drone swarm. Btw, wasn’t there a decapitation strike on the first day of the war planned and executed by Mossad? Why would it be impossible now when it was possible then.
