Purity was shocked, but she kept calm. After a while, more messages from different people allegedly accusing her boyfriend of conning them started coming in. Purity decided to dig deeper. The more she investigated, the more she realized that the man she believed was just a DJ was allegedly involved in criminal activities, fraud, online scams and others. That discovery completely changed how she viewed the relationship. Because of that, Purity decided she could no longer continue dating him. Akiwa shule, she called John and told him that she had learned about his criminal activities and had decided to end the relationship. She also informed him that she would come and collect her clothes and belongings because she could not continue dating someone she believed was involved in crime. John agreed and told her she could come and pick up her belongings. What Purity did not know was that accepting that meeting would be the last decision she would ever make. According to the prosecution, John feared that Purity now knew about his alleged criminal activities and could expose him. When Purity arrived, prosecutors said John, together with three other suspects, attacked her. They murdered the young woman in cold blood, stabbing her multiple times, including fatal wounds to her neck, before dumping her body in a thicket near Buriria Estate in Kiambu. Before leaving, Purity had told her friends that she was going to collect her belongings and would be back shortly. When darkness fell and she had not returned, her friends repeatedly called her phone, but all their calls went unanswered. They immediately became worried and raised the alarm. The following morning, Purity's body was discovered dumped in a thicket near Buriria Estate in Kiambu. A post-mortem established that she had suffered fatal stab wounds to the neck. Investigators concluded that she had been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped at the scene. Detectives arrested John Wanyoike, alias VDJ Flexx, together with several other suspects. In October 2022, the High Court considered his bail application and directed that a pre-bail report be prepared before bond terms could be set. He was later released on bond. However, in January 2024, the prosecution successfully applied to have his bond cancel after informing the court that he had threatened witnesses. The court found there were compelling reasons to deny him bond, and he was taken back into custody to continue facing trial Since then he has been in custody and juzi hii mwezi the High Court found John Wanyoike Kibugi, alias VDJ Flexx, guilty of the murder of Purity Wangechi Karinga after concluding that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doub Purity's death deeply affected fellow students at KIMC.
