During the monotonous days of having a newborn, I recorded videos like this and never watched them, recording my routines with Sophia just to have memories of her being so small and me being a new mom - this person I’ve just begun to know. I was in the depths of postpartum depression/anxiety here, and didn’t feel how good I thought I was “supposed” to feel after having a baby post-infertility journey - or even in general. I thought I should be ecstatic. And I felt SO blessed and happy to have this baby earthside and her birth was so wonderful and beautiful - but as so many moms already know - postpartum is not. ❤️ I now see this video and it makes me so emotional. Because I don’t see that pain and sadness on the surface in this video. I see a new momma and this sweet spirit of Sophia, so much smaller than she is now. And I see how fleeting time is, and how much her and I have grown in such a short time since then. She’s almost a year older than she was here, and we’re doing this thing! I also see so much I miss here despite my mental state at the time. Her crazy hair. Her newborn movements. Her post-swaddle stretches and her sleepy smiles every time she’d awake. Her seeing the world for the first time and her beginning to interact with me. And us both realizing and learning what life is like as two separate beings and no longer a physical part of the other. It makes me emotional as we’ve done 3 nights in a crib away from each other (at the time this was written), and a piece of me is grieving her sleeping right next to me. I’m so excited for all she is doing and all she is and who she will be, too - and I’m grateful that we get to grieve these moments and be present with them, soaking it all in and moving through each new season together. If you’re a new momma, take videos of yourself momming and see how great you’re doing, especially in those early days. I will tell you, I didn’t feel like I was doing anything right in this moment. #newmom #postpartum #postpartumjourney #parenting #postpartumanxiety #ilovebeingamom
