@rabbi.noah18: How do we honor the memory of someone we love who is God forbid no longer here? In Judaism remembering is not passive. It is active. It is alive. Look at how we remember the exodus from Egypt. Every single day we verbalize it. And every year we ritualize it at the Pesach Seder. We don't just think about it. We enact it. We live it. Until it is imprinted in the deepest levels of our soul. We can do the same for the people we love. My Zaidy, Moshe ben Tzadok v'Chana, Marvin Tile of blessed memory, was a giant of a soul. In medicine, in orthopedic surgery, in menschlichkeit. Here is how my family keeps him alive. First we talk about him. I tell my children his stories, his values, his wisdom. I will never stop talking about my Zaidy Marvin. Second we created a ritual. We call it Motzai Marvin. At Seudah Shlishit on Shabbat we cut the Challah the way he did, in his voice, in his accent. When I make Kiddush I remember the way he tapped his hands on the table watching all of us do Shabbat together with such nachas. Words and actions that bring a soul alive. Every mitzvah we do in their honor makes their neshama rise higher. Their memory does not end. It reverberates. Talk about them. Create something that brings them back into the room. זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה. #Judaism #Torah #Death #Yartzheit #Mourning
