When we talk about electricity, the conversation should begin with us. While electricity may seem inexpensive to consumers the infrastructure behind it from generation to transmission and distribution requires massive investment and is materially very expensive. Ironically many of the raw materials needed for power infrastructure should be relatively affordable in Nigeria because of our abundant natural resources. The real challenge is not a lack of resources but weaknesses in governance, industrial capacity, and technological development. Until we address those issues, reliable and affordable electricity will remain difficult to achieve.
