In 1980 they soldered the connection and wrapped it with electrical tape and it was fine for decades.

As an Avionics electrician We have been using that on aircraft for over 40 years except we don’t use a lighter to shrink it and melt the solder

I have been using these wire connectors with a solder in the middle lately and using a small butane torch to melt the solder and tighten the connector most the time they work for me but today I had one where the wire hooked through the Fair part and then I had to put black tape on it anyway

They work best with a heat gun. Also don’t use a torch. Not very good on high vibration areas. Or if you have a piece of equipment with these on them in the desert. The sun can roast them enough that the solder fails.
