so the black piece is a safety you put on before the colored piece so when/if the colored piece melts through you can slip the black piece over it and shrink that?

Been around for 50 years😳,requires a lot of heat to get that band of solder to melt(not good), just use normal soldering process then cover with sealing heat shrink 😌

lol stop lying. they've been around for years. I think the first time I bought a set of these was probably almost 20 years ago. they do work good though. much easier and trying to solder them and tape the wires. there's also clip-on connectors where you take each wire and clip them onto a plug and then you just plug the two ends of the plug into each other. if you're going to remove things. like back in the day people change car stereos all the time. and you don't want to keep cutting your wires. so in this case you would just put a plug in.
