the origin of 人口 is similar to 'people to feed'. in acient times they counted human amounts especially in a family connecting to the food they needed. by the way the word is not odd, I kinda don't like how he acts to react in his videos. I understand this is a way to introduce unique ways of language usages, but it makes me feel that he consider everything not familiar to him weird, which is rude.
