College isn’t a scam, but it is not designed for you to land a career. That falls on the person. Sadly there is this misconception that if you do well in college a job is waiting for you at the end. Yet it’s not true as 1/3 college graduates work in fields not in their course of study. It all comes down to what you did during that time and opportunity, networking, internships, etc. not just passing your courses online and expecting to land a great job at the end of the

Idk cause I’m a first gen, with a bachelors and have the hardest time finding a job. I’ve been a SAHM for 3 years 😭 I think it depends on WHAT your degree is in

I dont have a degree but have a good paying job, but I've also been in the working world since I was 19(in my 30s now). If college is not possible there are ways but I always always say a degree will always be an advantage. When it comes down to competition for a role, if we have the same amount of experience someone with a degree will almost always beat you out. There's also I feel a much lower celing you hit when you have no degree, career and pay wise.

you don’t have to go to college to be educated. I went to a 1 year trade school and make 6 figures only working 2 days a week my husband build a million dollar company and learned everything on his own. Our people think that going to college will guarantee a successfully financial life and that is 100% not the case. College is good if you want to be a doctor/engineer

For reals, omg, i hate how anti-intellectialism and anti-academic rhetoric is plaguing Latino communities in the USA right now. Like we already had high teen pregnancy rates and high high-school dropouts. My 🇲🇽 parents came to USA and got their RN licenses, and now are RN managers, and were able to buy rental properties during the 08/09 crash. My 🇲🇽 parents expect college degrees from my siblings and I, no exception - same for all my cousins. Here i am finishing my Masters this fall. it literally changed my life. To my Latinos, Échale Ganas, we need to up the Latino University graduation rates.

what Irks me is the constant barrage if Hispanic tik toks with their small business or blue collar business. telling people you dont need school , its not worth it. Making our community seem like the only path is to make a business or your a failure . there is plenty of degrees that make tons of money, engineers, architecrts, doctors , who are all under represented in our community. im 100% happy my parents pushed me into school and im couple of exams away from veing licensed architect. Will make millions? could gone the easy real estate route ? No but im making a difference , and applying my culture in my designs . One day I'll have 1 body of work that the world will recognize like luis Barragan .

I’m a doctor and my brother in an engineer. We both make 6 figures. This would not have been possible without a college education. My parents were absolutely correct to emphasize education! I will do the same for my kids one day.

yes! they don’t understand that the whole “college is a scam” mindset is for privileged people that have other options and are probably generations into the US. for us first gen education is the most valuable thing

I got my bachelor’s degree and was working for some non-profits during my 20s. Upon applying, those nonprofits required degrees from the employees in order to get funded. Many people don’t know this. College def helps w job security !
