take pictures and report it to planning. also check if they have planning permission. but there is no rights to lights. however, planning would most likely be rejected if its 500mm within the property boundary. however a lot depends on what their build is.

Definitely report it to the council. Could go against planning rights or could infringe on your right to light. If you’ve expressed your intention to take legal action and they’ve continued anyway they might have to knock it down

They’ve done nothing wrong. Assuming it’s permitted development building to the boundary, just like your conservatory was. That conservatory wall shouldn’t have been glass in the first place, then there wouldn’t be an issue. If on the boundary though they really should’ve had a party walk agreement. But the build itself is fine.

I know someone who build a whole two story extension, had it up for a year. Told to rebuild it by council to regulations or rip it down. Doesn't matter on how long it's been built for

As well at the council and planning officers, speak to your local fire service. What if there’s a fire everywhere but that room? You wouldn’t be able to escape.

Get on Reddit show all of this on r/legal and I think there’s a planning permission one also r/housing and I bet there’s gonna be more to do with building work. The legal one tho will be your best place they are super helpful with stuff like this or even just have a look on there a see what other people have done. We do have a right for light in the uk and if it’s not done up to standards well it comes down and they have to redo it the legal way

You need to go to your council and speak to the planning enforcement team. Take photos, using a tape measure to prove the distance between yours and their extension. You need to be able to open your windows for reasonable ventilation. Also if your property has had 20 yrs + of light through those windows then you have got the right to light. Check your boundary deeds to see if they are encroaching over the boundary. You are also able to instruct a solicitor on a no-win-no-fee bases which will give you stronger legal advice. x

Hire a lawyer, go to the housing ombudsman and make a formal complaint with all evidence you have (communication, photos, land registry information, etc.)

I would contact Citizens Advice online or in person for the best signposting, in addition to contacting your local council/MP even. It looks like theyve built onto the party wall not just the boundary? Id be very surprised if that was permissible, whether they are council, rented or private.
