The Mountains Remember
They came with iron,
with banners,
with tongues we did not speak.
Kingdoms rose,
empires marched,
and each believed
the mountains would finally bow.
Macedonian spears,
Mongol horsemen,
Arab armies,
Turkic banners,
Russian cannons.
They passed.
The mountains remained.
Hunger visited our homes.
Poverty shared our bread.
Winter buried our paths.
Graves outnumbered cradles.
Yet still,
our people endured.
The mountains became fathers
to children left without them.
They taught orphans
to carry wood before swords,
to honor God before themselves,
to protect the weak
before seeking glory.
They raised not perfect men,
but steadfast ones.
Men who became
defenders,
providers,
and brothers.
So do not fear loneliness.
The wind that walks these cliffs
has comforted generations before you.
Let it touch your face,
as it touched theirs.
For the One who created these mountains
did not leave His servants empty.
He granted them patience
when bread was scarce.
Humility
when victory came.
Loyalty
when betrayal was easier.
And hope,
even when all that remained
was stone,
sky,
and faith.
