@dr.noc: Creatine is one of the few supplements I would tell you to buy... but there are a few important caveats. Most of the supplement aisle is selling you a plausible-sounding mechanism that happens to cost you an arm and a leg, with no compelling human data to back it up. Creatine is one of the few exceptions to that principle among supplements. It has a large body of high quality research studies, and has become one of the very few supplements I take myself, that I have recommended for my parents, and that I think many people could actually benefit from, and it's one of the cheapest things on the shelf (if you buy the right form). But it's also sitting in the middle of a giant hype wave right now, and a lot of what's being claimed about it, especially for your brain, is simply making promises that are not backed up by evidence. So I wrote a detailed letter covering what's actually proven (muscle and strength, about as solid as supplement science ever gets), what's promising-but-not-there-yet (the brain and memory claims flooding your feed), and how to use it without getting talked into the fancy (expensive) tub you don't need. Inside the full letter: * Is it actually worth taking, and for whom. * What you have to do to actually unlock creatine's benefits for your body * The brain-and-memory hype taken apart: what European regulators concluded, and what even one of the most prominent pro-creatine researchers admits * The kidney and hair-loss scares vs. what the evidence really shows * The protocol: how much, whether to bother with a "loading dose phase," and when to take it * Which one to buy, and the pricier forms to skip (avoiding the unnecessary fancy form alone will likely save you more than a year of newsletter subscription cost) I have no ads, no sponsor, and no affiliate links - my newsletter is fully reader-supported. On a topic where almost everyone giving you advice is also selling you the product, I'd rather you pay me for the unfiltered read on the evidence than have a supplement company pay me a cut of the sale. Full deep dive on creatine is available for my paid newsletter supporters, with every study linked so you can check my work. The link to join my substack membership is in my bio. so should you only take it prior to resistance training or is it beneficial to take daily even if you only do resistance training say 3 times per week?

I do feel less tired on very sleep deprived days when I’ve been on creatine. Not sure if that has any evidence

I’ve noticed it helps with my migraines. Maybe there’s something maybe it’s just in my head but I ran out and didn’t get more because I kept forgetting and realized I had less migraines when I was taking it. Got back on it and sure enough more control.

I don’t take creatine to build muscle or any of the normal reasons that people say. I mean, they might say they take it for the same reason as me, but I take it for energy. I don’t eat very much meat and I started taking creatine in. It gave me so much energy. It’s incredible how it feels. I noticed it less now cause I’ve been taking it for about six months, but when I first started, it was like I was taking some kind of energy supplement. It was incredible. Now that I’m used to it it doesn’t feel the same, but I still have lots of energy. I know most people probably take it to build muscle in for like memory and other things, but I feel like it is one of the best things to take for energy. You just feel like you can do so much more than you normally could it’s incredible.

I've been on and off creatine for years as an aid for weight training. And then I remember like three years ago, I got on it, and then out of nowhere, I was like, wow, I'm thinking more clearly and my brain seems to be faster. And then I got all these creatine ads about over the past eight weeks, and I'm like, am I gonna get back on creatine? So then I'm like, yeah. Got some at Target. Plain creatine. It's a monohydrate, I don't even remember what the chemical's called. And I've been taking five to eight, maybe sometimes closer to 10 grams or micro milligrams, whatever the dosage is in the little cup they give you, the little scooper. And literally, it has aided my mind and my brain tremendously. Like, it helps the parts of your brain when you're trying to think about things kick on and aid your cognition. So whether or not you're trying to get strong or what, more than likely, you'll benefit cognitively if you get on this compound, providing your diet is already deficient in creatine, which mine is because I eat very little. So anyway, I highly recommend everybody check this out. If you are curious, the brand that I have purchased is called On Optimum Nutrition, micronized creatine powder. Active ingredient, creatine monohydrate. Serving five grams.

Consumer labs, does a great deal on summarizing research, testing common supplements, and providing information on many “wellness” ingredients i have had a subscription for 20 years as many researchers at the time recommended it. I like how many times i walk away thinking oh this is not worth it regarding a supplement
