its not about the "miles per year" You need to take into account how much time you will spend driving in city areas, traffic jams, weather (yes, extreme weather also matters)

Petrol engine, top gear 3000rpm at 100kph. Diesel engine, top gear 1500rpm at 100kph. Diesel, more efficent engine.

Petrol is not cheaper in Denmark it’s cheap in the half year period tax while diesel is cheap at the pump it’s expensive in half year period tax
