University libraries have large amounts of physical media that are never checked out. Non student can borrow for a small fee and use them. Also disc burners exist.

100% agree. Especially since online subscription providers can, at any moment for whatever reason, remove something from the platform. making it gone. so not only is it gonna be more expensive, but also impossible to archive. Also the reason piracy is Ethical.
