Do it not because she would appreciate it, because that means it’s her job and you are just helping her out. You ate the meal, you produced some of the garbage, and they are your kids too. That’s why you should do these things.

Yall, he is mentioning his wife because to him these are tasks that he doesn’t feel need to be done right away. But when he thinks about how his partner would feel or think it helps him see the task in a different way. To him cleaning the dishes isn’t a big thing that needs to be done tonight but he also recognizes that his wife would be stressed or feel she has to take the time to do the dishes tonight so he takes care of it for her.

"Actually" do the dishes tonight. Because if you don't, food sits in the sink and ants and bugs eventually come around. "Actually" take out the trash now. Because it's full and that way in the morning we're not doing it when we should be able to sit and enjoy our coffee. "Actually" clean up the toys because you're setting an example for a kid of how you live your lives. Leaving them tells them that they can always leave them. No need to clean up after yourself... Your wife is not solely responsible for all of these chores. You are not doing it as a favor to her or because she would appreciate it. you should be doing it because you're an adult and you're an equal participant in the management of your household. God its tiring.
