@remyw.anders: Property taxes are too high. So how do you address it? Schools and other local services rely on property taxes. If you eliminate it, you have to use sales tax or income tax to make up the difference. That would mean the same issue with schools not being fairly funded in affluent vs poorer areas still exist AND businesses would pay even less to fund education and local services. What is the solution? Have businesses pay their fair share in property tax, while providing property tax relief to homeowners. Then funding for local services needs to be fairly spread out to equitably fund all public programs.
I would also not exempt non profits and churches from property taxes.

Proponents of abolishing property taxes in Ohio have no plan to replace school funding. They've literally told me that cutting the taxes will force the state legislature to, "find a solution."

I’m in TX dominated by Republican controlled state for over 29 years. My taxes are sky high. I pay 8.25% sales tax, property tax, city tax, county tax, vehicle fee, garbage, sewer fee, hidden usage fees…. It’s endless

The irony is how much businesses lament about the unqualified kids coming out of schools.

Why not just have a set amount per child? Of course we’d have to make sure teachers salaries would be proportionate to the area’s cost of living. But why are schools paid for on a local level instead of a state or national level?

That last part in particular. The funding of education being a function of local economics rather than equitable distribution is a big player in generational poverty. And before someone screams at me for it; this isn’t to say that kids born to well-off families or living in well-off areas don’t deserve high quality education or deserve worse education. It’s about every single kid, no matter their circumstance, deserving access to high quality education.

My district opened a fancy dual highschool college so students would graduate with both degrees. Admission was supposed to be a public lottery yet somehow of all the students to apply most of them were affluent kids from the local lds church

Let's see...and who benefits the most from a well educated population? That's right businesses.that is why all of the business headquarters plant their flags in large democratic run cities, where all the high paid earners are, and the blue collar manufacturing is in more rural areas.

I own a small business and I believe business taxes should 100% pay for schools. they are the ones that benefit the most. parents can't go to work without schools and businesses can't have trained employees without schools

Not to mention the Ohio government hasn’t been properly funding schools as required since the 90s. And they’ve been pushing vouchers but public school districts that students who now go to voucher private schools used to go to have to pay for those students transp to their new private schools. So… that’s fun.

but giving more money to schools has been proven not to increase outcomes of education its actually been getting worse. maybe we should stop funding the teachers unions and schools and there is a lot of things we could xut the spending that would actually start putting the money to were it would really need to go. even if the republican party has been a minority the education department decided were the money gets allocated. you do have some point but not the hole story.

no.... tax on anything that's consumed will only hit the poor, the only viable tax is income tax and that should increase in % the more you earn... so if you work for free, you pay zero taxes, if you get just the average income, no taxes, but if you wanna earn millions? 45-55% tax is ok, and by income I mean anything the business gives you, this includes cars, shares, bitcoins....if the company pays for where you live, ....
