I only got the job I have BECAUSE of the MBA program I enrolled in. This guy isn’t wrong outright, but he doesn’t have the insight to give proper advice. The MBA is still very much required for most upper roles

I am a business owner. getting an MBA was the best thing I ever did after owning my business for 10 years. I no longer need to pay for "business coaches" & " Marketing consultants" I save about $200,000 a year from that.

Let me reword that for you- “the value of an mba for a student who just graduated undergrad is 0.” That has always been true tho, it’s just more obvious now. Can’t go into the market with an mba and 0 work skills or knowledge. The mba is truly only helpful if you actually already have experience.

I’m a recruiter and no one really cares about a degree anymore. Everyone has them

The MBA market was vastly over saturated in the mid-late 80s and onward. It’s not an education today in 2026. It’s a tiered membership program based upon the school you bought it from. You aren’t learning any new practices or skills in a MBA program today. I’d argue most hiring managers just hear MBA and don’t know what the content is within the courses. Every person has access to all of that information in the palm of their hand.

Let’s assume there is zero applicable lesson plans in modern MBA. As a hiring manager I see someone who is investing in them selves, willing to learn and grow. That tells me a lot about who I am hiring and what they want to accomplish

Do you have a Harvard MBA, Justin? I do and none of what you're saying is accurate. Biggest employer at HBS for Class of 2026? Anthropic. No one is getting an MBA to learn frameworks. I got an MBA because I grew up FGLI, spent six years working 80 - 100 hours a week, and wanted 4 things: a fucking 2-year vacation, to pivot careers, to expand my network from beyond the midwest, and to expand my dating pool. Going to an AI startup instead wouldn't have accomplished any of those goals. AI makes a general management MBA more relevant, not less. It's not a technical degree.

As an MBA -> no lol; and I’m almost certain you’ll sell a solution in part two.

As someone recruiting for mbb consulting with over 20 coffee chats, everyone who has gotten an mba says it’s worth it if u go to a top 5-10 program as it opens every door in consulting, pe, ib, and even tech. Otherwise it’s mostly useless

Ignore him - my salary tripled after I graduated immediately. Remember the elites are sending their kids to higher Ed for a reason, do as they do in that context.

MBAs are so beneficial to people who have experience or executives. For younger crowds, in this market, an MBA is not as valued because the job market is over saturated with applicants and employers are selecting people with more experience. Most executives have an MBA, but also years of experience and certifications that proves mastery of skill.

MBA totally changed how I worked at my sales job. I know what to ask Claude and how to put real strategy behind AI output. Can’t thank Anthropic and my MBA program enough

what you said might've been true like 20 years ago. the value of the modern MBA isn't the education, it's the recruiting pipeline and the gold-plated name on your resume to get you interviews. and even with your foot in the door, it's still a grind. no MBA promises you anything. you still gotta work for it

I would push back gently on the word dying. The network and the finance fundamentals still hold real value. The piece losing value fast is any repeatable skill a competent AI setup can now do in an afternoon, and that is where I would put learning time.
