On this day, @The Temptations released their sixteenth studio album—“All Directions” 54 years ago. On July 27, 1972, Motown released The Temptations sixteenth LP titled “All Directions”—written and produced by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong. It featured the groups third classic lineup known as ‘Funky Five’—consisting members: Dennis Edwards, Damon Harris, Richard Street, Melvin Franklin, and Otis Williams. The album featured songs like “Mother Nature,” “Funky Music Sho Nuff Turns Me On,” “I Ain’t Got Nothin’,” and their No. 1 Grammy Award winning hit song “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone.” The LP became the groups most successful non-collaborative album by reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and becoming their twelfth No. 1 on the R&B Albums chart. Fun fact: Did you know that The Undisputed Truth, another Motown group, originally recorded ‘Papa’? I, myself, personally own this classic album and it’s one of my favorite records.
