My family made fun of me for crying so easily when I was a kid to the point where I hid most of my emotions because I learned that anything that was perceived as negative made others as uncomfortable so I suppressed it...and it did nothing but caused me damage. I hurt myself to comfort others. It took me 40 years to realize this.

It’s not that I don’t know how to cry, or stop whatever it is that’s preventing me from crying. I’m numb. I don’t feel anything. I’ve been through so much pain that I became numb to everything.

My boyfriend grew up with the term “men don’t cry” and it makes me so angry for him.Whenever he’s showing sad emotions he immediately apologizes and I’m trying so hard to teach him that it’s okay to cry as a man and it’s okay to feel sad or frustrated some times.
