@thefiifiansah: I believe Toffee was released in 2004, at a time when Hiplife was carving out a new identity, becoming more dance-oriented while increasingly embracing the melodic sensibilities and rhythms of Highlife that came before it. I also believe this was Castro’s debut album (correct me if I’m wrong), and it was nothing short of a triumphant entry unto the scene. He announced himself with confidence, charisma, and undeniable talent. At the time, only a handful of artists could effortlessly switch between rapping and singing. Castro was one of those rare talents who mastered both, giving his music a distinct and unforgettable appeal. His success as an artist was immense, and anyone who had the opportunity to work with him speaks highly of his exceptional gift and creativity. Castro was also part of the remarkable wave of artists from Ghana’s Western Region who brought clever Fante wit, slang and infectious energy to Hiplife, alongside the likes of TH4 Kwages, Sass Squad, and others. It’s heartbreaking that his journey was cut short far sooner than anyone could have imagined. His absence remains deeply felt, and his legacy continues to stand as one of the greatest losses to Ghanaian music.
