When I shared the outside of my 1932 Tudor yesterday, so many of you asked to see inside! I still can’t believe I’m only the second owner of this home after 94 years. Every room reminds me that this isn’t just a house - it’s a piece of history that I’m lucky enough to care for. Some of my favorite original details include: • Original brick exterior with the arched front entry • Hand-carved front door with its original Art Deco hardware and hidden deadbolt • Original arched doorways throughout the home • Original fireplace with handmade tile from a renowned tile maker of the 1920s and 1930s • Original arched fireplace nook • Original coved ceilings in the front rooms • Original wood trim throughout the home • Original casement windows that still open after 94 years • Original hardwood floors • Original bathroom with hex tile, turquoise accents, and built-in cabinetry • Original hallway built-in cabinets • Original breakfast nook with built-in cabinets (now my coffee bar) • Original mail slot that delivers mail directly into the kitchen • Original metal milk delivery door where milk, cheese, and other groceries were once delivered • Original crystal doorknobs upstairs • Original Art Deco glass doorknobs downstairs And here’s my favorite part… There’s a hidden staircase in the basement that’s been closed off for decades. I’m seriously considering opening it back up. Would you restore the secret staircase—or leave it as part of the home’s history? Tell me what you’d do! 👀 Unfortunately, at some point, the original kitchen was taken apart and replaced with a 1990s kitchen so I’m in the middle of restoring the kitchen. I’m matching the original beadboard that’s at one end of the room and adding that as the backsplash in the kitchen along with honed stone counters, and curved backsplash.
