Airplane mode only turns off the cellular connection. On Android, it even warns you that BT and Wi-Fi will remain on while in airplane mode. Another reason crApple sucks.

Airplane mode hasn’t turned the Bluetooth off for years and Apple is very open about that. And if you turn Bluetooth off from the control centre it’s also not fully off which they also are transparent about when it changed.

Airplane mode cuts the cell signal but not the Bluetooth or WiFi if you have those enabled under airplane mode. So this is BS user error. Straight up.
