I think it depends on your location. If you are in an habesha dominated area, saying hi is not necessary, but in places where there are few habeshas, saying hi is mandatory

Some act “Americanized” and won’t respond when you greet them, but most Habesha people I’ve met still carry on the tradition of greeting each other. So don’t let a few bad apples discourage you from keeping that tradition alive.

I always say “Hi” and as I walk by and they didn’t say nothing back or they decided to look away , I say to myself “or not” lol 😂. The funny part is they stare you down until you make eye contact , then as soon as you smile or try to say “hi” ,they immediately look away. It’s so funny lol

Sharing the same background doesn’t mean you’re obligated to greet every person you pass. Just live your life. I honestly don’t see other communities constantly complaining that someone from their own country didn’t say hi to them. Why do we take it so personally when another Habesha doesn’t greet us? 😳
