Nice thought but I think it’s more impactful if they let it be a lesson of letting go. Talking about not loving him anymore because she doesn’t know him anymore is something I’m sure many can relate to and I hope personally anyway they leave it like that.

I actually have another very simplistic theory. Ned remembered the handshake because of muscle memory and he remembered the voice of Flower Guy/Peter and Spider-Man, so he connected the dots that this was the Peter that Mj called Spider-Man. And Mj was crying because she was scared she lost control of her body but ALSO bc she knew Jean had powers and if Jean was using them to that powerful of a degree she was probably thinking that something happened to Spider-Man and probably was scared for his safety, as well as her own.

I'm not sure!! But I definitely feel like the film's opinion is that the the love goes so deeply that it can be awakened like a lost memory (see also Hulk's reaction to Spider-Man). I think the dahlia necklace is hinting at that. but at the end of the day, the scene in the apartment shows that Ned and MJ can care for Peter regardless of whether they remember him- they're all meant to be friends.
