@al.comnews: Businesses across the United States are currently getting tariff refunds courtesy of a February Supreme Court decision that ruled tariffs were unlawful. FinanceBuzz reports that stimulus check talks have resurfaced in recent days, especially given food and gas prices. President Donald Trump first floated the idea of these $2,000 checks out in 2025 as “tariff dividends” that would return money collected from tariffs back to U.S. residents. FinanceBuzz notes that the $166 billion that’s being returned to businesses now has pretty much removed the funding source for kind of consumer tariff payout, though. Still, CNBC Select states that there are other motions out there to get stimulus money to Americans’ bank accounts: Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas introduced the American Consumer Tariff Rebate Act in March, which would set aside $230 billion for direct one-time payments to offset consumer tariff costs. Separate from tariffs, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ro Khanna introduced a massive tax proposal on billionaires — aptly called the “Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act” — that would send out one-time $3,000 payments to households earning $150,000 or less, according to Fox 32 Chicago. Updates on each of these motions — as well as on those $2,000 tariff dividends — remain pending. Until something more substantial happens, FinanceBuzz says that the only payments people can “realistically expect” this year are your average, run-of-the-mill tax refunds. We will not see a stimulus check. If we do it will cause inflation to rise drastically. Our economy will certainly enter a recession within a few months as corporations will use it as an excuse to gouge consumers. The best alternative would be to drop tariffs. Every American is facing an average of 18% price increase from tariffs across all goods. This is specifically Donald Trump's fault. If you want the cost of living to go down then we need to stop tariffs and stop corporations from gouging consumers.
