all evidence points to the fact that sending people to jail is bad for that individual and costs the city a huge amount of money. Sending someone to jail drastically increase their chances to recidivise. Treatment programs work. Treating people with addiction as people and giving them access to vital services that mean they have somewhere to fall when they are able to kick the drugs is an exponentially better solution for that person, for those of us doing the work in homeless services, and the city. The problem is people largely dont want better outcomes for those living on the streets, they want cruelty, they want people to disappear and never come back. This problem will continue to get worse, the price of food, rent, education, all necessities increase each year. The price of drugs stay the same. If you really want to see homeless people off the streets, use all this money given to the cops on permanently housing people. PSH works
