Corporate video in NYC W/ EVA1, cabrio 20-120, cartoni legs, lectro wireless lav, evoke 3 light kit (and a lantern and other stuff), about 14k of gear is only a $3k rental, +$800 for the single operator and +$150 for travel. The unfortunate thing is that unless you’re a rental house your clients only care about what the project is worth to them, not how much you are worth.

i charge 100 for a video but basics i usually do music videos and for 100$ ill do cuts and basic color correction but the issue is people dont even have 100 to spend on a video, i think if you want to become something you have to invest in yourself so its there loss.

I had a real estate person say they wanted to hire me and when I told her my rates she asked if I can do it lower. I told her if you want a lower rate, you get one of my interns. I dont bother with people with low budgets anymore. If I'm not worth it in their view, then they're not worth my time.

I have my own business. I paint houses. I don’t charge clients for my tools. That is my experience as someone who wants the job. I aim to charge a 50% margin wich covers for my tools. It’s ridiculous to say I’m going to buy a new fx3 every time I make a video.

When you get to that stage you don’t charge for the gear you buy or have, they don’t care, clients don’t care how much it takes to make/plan/film/edit a video. You charge for the value you bring, the results you give. If you’re just shooting videos that the people want, then you will get low ball clients. Look for clients that want results and a video partner, rather than just someone they can call to shoot something randomly. And don’t quote them right away, you can tell them”my rates start at”. Based on that you save a lot of your time and their time, as the will know if they can afford you or if you want to work their budget. Don’t hate the game, hate the players.
