people might not be ready to hear this, and I'm a sunni btw, but shia imams do have softness and emotional intelligence. I went to sunni imams with my problems and it was as you would expect then tried a shia imam because he was easier to access for women and I really needed to speak to someone, the compassion and hope he spoke with helped me get back up again.

Prophet Muhammad understood the pain of losing a close person more than any of us could ever do, lost both his parents as a kid, then his grandfather who raised him, then a number of his boys and girls, then his beloved wife, his uncle who nurtured him, his brother like uncle Hamza, imagine telling someone like him he doesn't understand the pain and not get a reply!

And now, simply imagine she was talking to an ordinary person instead, who said the exact same words, and the woman reacted the same way; not regretful. Would you really say it all is the same?

You can be religious but lack emotional intelligence (like empathy, ihsan). Both are equally important. If you don't have that ppl are going to think Islam is robotic & only talks abt rulings, punishment no matter the situation. There's a proper approach for every situation.

I think some people may take "shepherd" too literally in this case. I've seen a comment arguing about it already. "Shepherd" in this context may not necessarily mean in the literal sense. For many, it's a figure of speech. A comparison if you will. Just as a shepherd leads and tends to the flock, a Prophet leads and tends to the people he is sent to. A Prophet resonates with their hearts, just as a shepherd resonates with the sheep. A few may or may not have been literal shepherds, but they're all still shepherds. After all, the Christians do say "The Lord is my shepherd..."
