I’m a developmental expert and have worked in assistive technology as well as autism diagnosis for 25 years. I’ve been a system level expert as well. I believe that one of the reasons for a rise in autism labels in schools is the swing to individuality. There are very few things that we have the same now. So if you have high functioning students who are consuming content that is math and science based and you have other students consuming content, that is Minecraft Roblox what are they gonna talk about? And then you take the pre-disposition of teachers to be biased towards social norms that are true to their own life and you get over referrals of students who aren’t consuming sports pr popular tools. Or you get over referrals in one area on Minecraft kids. My job was the study over referrals and you saw a distinctive pattern and what the teacher felt was normal and what the individual was consuming.
