@yourhistorygal: Can you believe the bridge survived an atomic bomb? #History #historytok #ww2 #japan #USHistory ps: I misspoke when I said the bridge lifted several hundred meters. eyewitness reports claimed they saw it lift in the air, but not hundreds of meters 😂
Fact.. the United States is the only country that has used this kind of weapon on a populated area💯💯

To the people whining about this. If we never dropped the bombs. Invading the Japanese mainland would cause Both A: a further increase loss of life. And B: A prolonged World War II. If we never dropped the bombs. World War II couldve lasted months longer than in our timeline. yes. It was a cruel thing to do. But it was necessary to end the war.

I remember when I learned about this growing up and it never sat right with me. I don’t care how much people try to justify it bombing an entire group of civilians. Instantly vaporizing them is insanity and inhumane. We are all humans and this is ridiculous.

This may be controversial, but this was probably one of the best outcomes comes to quickly end the war with less casualties

when I visited our guide told us that people jumped into the water to escape the blast just for the water to be so hot from the explosion that they boiled alive. I think about that all the time. no country should have a power like that.

So how does a bridge “lift several hundred meters in the air, then crash back down” , yet still stand. I’m confused

They can rebuild a bridge in a month after a nuclear explosion but it takes YEARS to do simple road work here in MA 😂

didn't the bomb explode like a mile in the air to prevent atomic fallout?

The bridge went up hundreds of meters in the air and then what? Crashed in the exact same spot?

An unnecessary bomb by the way. The Japanese army was nearly defeated and the US government was afraid that the Red Army (the Russians) had their sights on Tokyo without the allies' assistance.
