When I was in HS (2000 - 2004) the kids trying to start a formal GSA couldn't get school approval so we had to meet at Burger King. We got death threats. There were fewer than 5 kids in a school of 800 who were openly out; I was one of them, and it was terrifying. I had so hoped things were better for kids now.

I'm the GSA faculty advisor at my middle school in florida. it used to be a place of historical learning, community engagement, and a sense of support. now all I can do is offer them my room and say nothing. I want to be so much more for this group of kids and I can't because of this state

My daughter is a high school teacher and was the adviser for their GSA club. She was doxed several years ago by people on here. They sent emails to her school trying to get her in trouble. Since it was a school sponsored club, it didn't work. She continued doing what she loves doing, helping her students.

This will be my 10th year running my middle school’s GSA. It’s also completely student driven, and most of the time it’s just hanging out and playing games. They just want a safe space where they know they belong.

This wasn’t a thing when I was a teenager. I wonder how many kids at my school would be better off had it been more visible. I knew a few kids who 💀 because of hateful comments.

In 6th grade, i was bullied so badly just for my classmates *thinking* i was gay that i attempted to unalive myself. Queer people in middle school do in fact exist. GSA can help teach tolerance.

Thank you for all you do. The research is clear on what an impact supportive adults in the school have on queer kids. Even more important now with bullying and school hate crimes on the rise.

As the organizer of my high schools GSA I want to thank you for being an ally and showing your support. I want to let any middle/high school student know that any an all after school orientations/clubs are federally protected and schools can not block or ban one just because they don’t like it or agree with it. As long as you have an advisor that’s all there is to it. If you are struggling and having issues reach out to other GSAs in the area, The Human Rights organization, The National GSA which in known as GLSEN and they will help. And as always stay safe and humble

In 2005 my high school principal denied a request to have a GSA so we went to our multicultural and diversity club and created an in the closet one instead.

I sponsored our GSA for 5 years before it became illegal in Texas. Some of my favorite memories are in that club. It was a blast and very educational.
