There is definitely verbal abuse when people scream at their pets frequently. Like clearly they don't understand your direction, so train with them more. It's one thing to scream or yell in the moment, but when they pee on the floor or get into your food and you're screaming at them for a good 5 minutes, then that's abuse. If you do that then it just means you need to figure that anger out and train them more, not cause them emotional distress.

It may be a personal opinion but I believe that if people think animals don’t understand whatever language they grow up around, they haven’t lived with them enough. I used to hold conversations with my childhood dog once she turned into an elderly. Even my cat will give me certain judging looks if I call her beautiful or a bitch
