If you never know which study method to use, stop choosing based only on the subject. Choose based on what your brain actually needs to do: retrieve information, understand a difficult text, or stay focused while solving problems. Here’s how to use each method properly 👇 BLURTING 🗣️ Works well for subjects with lots of facts, definitions, processes and concepts — such as Biology, Psychology or Business. Study one small topic using your notes or textbook. Close everything. On a blank page, write down everything you remember. Don’t worry about structure or perfect sentences. The goal is to retrieve the information without help. Open your notes and compare them with what you wrote. Mark anything you forgot, confused or explained incorrectly. Review only those weak areas, then repeat the process. Blurting works because it forces active recall. You’re testing whether you can actually retrieve the information instead of simply recognizing it while rereading. If the page is almost empty during your first attempt, that doesn’t mean the method failed. It showed you exactly what still needs work. SQ3R METHOD 📚 Works well for reading-heavy subjects such as History, Sociology or Law. SQ3R stands for: Survey — Quickly inspect the chapter before reading it. Look at headings, summaries, diagrams, bold terms and review questions. Question — Turn every heading into a question. Instead of reading “Causes of the Industrial Revolution,” ask: “What caused the Industrial Revolution?” Read — Read actively while searching for the answers to your questions. Focus on one section at a time. Recite — Close the book and explain the main idea using your own words. You can say it aloud or write a short summary from memory. Review — Return to the material later and test yourself again. Check whether you can still answer the questions without looking. SQ3R prevents passive reading. You enter the chapter with a purpose, interact with the information and practise retrieving it before moving on. POMODORO METHOD 🍅 Works well when you need sustained concentration for problem-solving subjects such as Math, Chemistry or Physics. Choose one clearly defined task. Set a timer for 25 minutes. Work only on that task until the timer ends. Take a real 5-minute break. After four focus sessions, take a longer 15–30 minute break. The task needs to be specific. “Study chemistry” is too vague. “Complete questions 1–8 from the acids and bases worksheet” gives your brain a clear finish line. During the focus block, write distracting thoughts on a separate piece of paper instead of acting on them. You can deal with them during the break. And make the break an actual break: stand up, stretch, drink water or look away from the screen. Switching from studying to scrolling often keeps your brain overstimulated instead of helping it recover. You also don’t have to follow 25/5 forever. Try 15/5 when starting feels difficult or 45/10 when you can maintain deeper concentration. The timer should support your attention — not become another rule to feel guilty about. These subject recommendations are starting points, not strict rules. Blurting can help with formulas, SQ3R can help with scientific chapters, and Pomodoro can support almost any demanding task. Save this for your next study session and follow for more practical study systems, focus tips and smarter ways to learn ✨ #StudyTips #studytok #productivity #growth #focus
