@ksbw_8: Salinas Police are responding to Salinas High School on Wednesday morning after receiving a report of a bomb threat on the first day of school. According to the Salinas Police Department, the campus has been placed on lockdown while officers investigate the threat. Police said officers are on scene and continuing to assess the situation. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area to allow first responders to conduct their investigation safely. "Salinas Police officers are currently on campus conducting a thorough sweep and assessing the situation. Additional district staff and security personnel will remain on campus to provide support and maintain a visible presence," Salinas High School said in a message sent out to students and family. The nature of the threat and whether any explosive device has been found have not been disclosed. "We understand incidents like this can be concerning for students, families, and staff," the Salinas Police Department said in a social media post. "Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available." All students and staff have been reported safe. "We understand that situations like this can be concerning for families. We will provide additional information as it becomes available. "Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work closely with law enforcement to ensure the continued safety of our campus," said Salinas High principal Dr. Margarita Contreras.
