People love to talk about themselves, it makes them feel special when you ask questions and genuinely seem interested in them. That’s why I always try to ask them questions about them and they love it.

Some of the most insufferable people I’ve met are the ones who are infatuated with themselves and play it off as main character energy. It makes it so hard to build a genuine connection when you feel like the person is just waiting for you to quit talking so they can circle the conversation back to themself. I feel like one of the best traits a person can have…is being considerate and a great listener. Which is rare nowadays. Social media breeds narcissism.

I cut everyone off, cuz I been a free therapist for others way too long. It felt like I was only a medicine for a little bit till they’re back doing whatever the heckling they wanna do.

I used to work with a difficult person who I had to, on occasion, ask her make a special check run. She was extremely off putting, but I learned that if I asked how her kids were on a regular basis she would help me when I needed a check outside of the normal runs.

The most interesting and intelligent person I know is absolutely hilarious and fascinating to be around. A Marine, turned hippie, turned criminal justice student ending in student mental health advisor today, will somehow bring the perfect ideas back around as a joke later on. In the most incredible way, and with an infectious laugh that amplifies what he's already started in you with his words. Like a master comedian. But sadly, he does not like people, like 99.99% of people he would rather not talk to unless he was paid to. And it makes a lot of sense, but it's sad people don't really get to experience his genius as a friend. He sticks to himself and his wife. Jesse. Y'all don't even know about Jesse. I haven't heard from the dude in like 6 months but I know he's doing well. Dude has zero social media and rarely looks at his phone.

It's kind of the same, but when I'm in a group, and I see that one person that's not talking much, I like to get the conversation going in a way that they can join in. I like seeing EVERYONE get a chance in the spotlight.
