To be clear, HR wasn’t protecting the employee. At some point the boss did something that potentially exposed the company to legal liability, so he had to go. HR protected the company. In this case they just happened to protect the employee as well, but that wasn’t the goal. HR is not your friend.

I don’t want to speculate- okay i really do - i worked in HR for the government - the only time we had a person “disappeared” like that and have things be “effective immediately” was in the case of an employee using his computer (in his office! At his desk!) for CSAM. Very illegal and horrible actions. The cameras and stalker behaviour sound illegal to me. Are cameras like that illegal in the US?

I wish HR would tell the employees concerned what the outcomes are to their complaints because (especially for women) if the person was overtly threatening they deserve to be clear about whether or not they need to protect themselves— even temporarily.

The camera creep.. HR should have given the employee a heads up that he was getting fired, especially if the stalking was more severe than they originally thought. I would seek a protection order just in case.
