I also think it extends to the degree of how much has gone on. If you’re in a situation that you’ve been in for years, you’ve been quiet and “graceful” of the other’s disrespect and lack of consideration/care for your boundaries - and you’ve demonstrated being the mature one in conversations, but they are actively choosing to still disrespect your boundaries and lying to you about the smallest of things..then that anger is stemming from pain, ptsd, etc and you’ve just hit that person’s limit. Now I’m not saying that person is perfect, and obviously still has some work to do. But again-there comes a breaking point when someone is choosing to purposely misunderstand you, in order to avoid communicating honestly. Unhealed will trigger those trying to. Wouldn’t exactly say it’s a lack of emotional intelligence or awareness-because some of us know exactly what is happening, why it’s happening, and how bad it is for both parties- however, we can’t stop the trauma response in that moment-that is why we in turn, will take accountability and apologize after. However, then we’re seen as “manipulative” and “narcissistic” when in reality- in that situation, we know we’re surviving it. Vs in another situation with different people, where we can handle someone disagreeing with how we see things with an open perspective and curiosity. It’s whether or not we feel safe and have that sense of trust built with you. If someone’s hurt you and continues to, then yeah- we burn out emotionally. Anyone with empathy would.
