@kwetheone: If Ghana wants more Ghanaian-owned businesses, then we need to make it easier to build them. Access to financing is difficult. Interest rates are insane. Government support is limited. Infrastructure is inconsistent. Yet we expect local entrepreneurs to compete with companies that have access to capital, supply chains and decades of experience. This isn’t about attacking foreign businesses. They simply saw an opportunity and took it. #businessmindset #ghana #africa
I worked in a savings and loans company and I can tell you that access to finance for businesses in Ghana is a risk game for government, the banks and those taking the loan . Like the whole blame of access funds in Ghana is beyond one side story.. The savings and loans plus the banks that were taking the risk to give out loans got collapsed 6yrs ago bcos dealing with huge informal sector loans is not easy..

Ghanaians cannot access funds to do business. Collateral can be lost and for those who don’t have collateral, you can imagine.

This theme plays out in Ghana, other African nations and the Caribbean. Unfortunately, there is little support from the government for local people to start businesses.

Mostly it is the system, for instance African banks don’t lend money to the enterpreneur, they may request high percentage of collateral in real estate and very high percentage of interest.

You have a point bro. Dubai is built by foreigners but the government have put things in place makes them pay a lot taxes. I don't know why we can't do same in Ghana.

You are absolutely right bro but the problem in Ghana is, most of the products made in Ghana are more expensive than the foreign products. Imagine a sandal or a Chair made in Ghana is more expensive than a foreign one.
