I’m reading the novel, and this scene is really beautiful. But while Edric moves closer to her to protect her, Thaila thinks he only did it to keep an eye on her. Edric shouldn’t become a love interest. He should remain her friend, because that’s what she’s truly missing: someone who cares about her and protects her not because they’re in love with her or because of her appearance, but because they genuinely care about her well-being and stay by her side even when she treats them badly, snaps at them, or pushes them away. Edric is a wonderful character exactly the way he is.
